Countless individuals vow for a change. Be it spiritually, financially or mentally, goals cannot be accomplished without the encouragement to take the necessary steps. With a guiding hand and powerful words, Encouragement Speaker Derrick Hayes is here to help.

From the work place to the church pews, people need encouragement to propel them to the God-given success they already possess, Hayes says. While it’s inside already, sometimes an extra push is needed. I strive to provide that.

Here is our recent Q & A:

1. What does leadership mean to you?

A leader is a person who tells you what they will do and does exactly what they say. Leaders know when to compliment and when to give constructive criticism.

2.  How do you incorporate leadership as well as the essential habits of character into your family, business and life?

The way to incorporate leadership and character in your life is to find out the right things to do and do them everyday. Treat others how you want to be treated and live by example. Be man or woman enough to get and receive help through mentorship.

3.  What impact do you think character has on children? Communities?

Character helps youth raise and develop expectations that they can be something other than what they always see. When you have one youth that can make a positive impact they can inspire other kids that inspire a whole community to change.

4.  How can children affect leadership?

Children can give you a point of view from where they are growing up. Things have changed since you were a youth. When children realize they can make a difference they change the dynamics of the culture. Leaders have to look out for the needs of the future.

5.  What is one thing you recommend to others so they, too can bring character to life?

Be fair and consistent.
